Building extension with new spiral freezer - integration into existing NH₃ deep-freeze plant

We took on the technical planning for an industrial food manufacturer as part of a building extension – with the aim of integrating a new spiral freezer into the existing ammonia refrigeration system. The challenge was to make efficient use of the existing structure and integrate the new consumer without interrupting operations.

The new spiral freezer – compact and powerful

The newly installed spiral freezer is one of the system’s most efficient deep-freeze components:

Up to 6,000 products are frozen to -25 °C at the same time – a key element in expanding production capacity.

Planning priorities at a glance

The integration of the freezer required extensive adjustments to the existing infrastructure:

Connection to the existing separator (-45 °C)
– using the existing capacity reserves of the NH₃ deep-freeze system

Installation of a new NH₃ screw compressor to increase the volume flow

Pipe routing on the roof:

  • Partial new installation of pipe routes
  • Partial utilization of existing pipe guides

Integration during ongoing operations

Particular attention was paid to uninterrupted implementation:
The complete connection and commissioning took place during ongoing production operations – through precise planning, structured coordination with all trades and rapid implementation on site.

Conclusion

This project is an example of how building expansions can be implemented with high-performance refrigeration technology without disrupting existing processes.
The new spiral freezer was seamlessly integrated into the existing NH₃ system – a sustainable step towards expanding capacity while making efficient use of existing resources.
