Refrigeration technology for the food industry: freshness, hygiene & efficiency

There are no compromises in food production and processing. The quality of your products depends directly on the reliability of your refrigeration systems. Whether meat processing, dairy, baked goods or fruit & vegetables: cold.world ENGINEERING plans refrigeration systems that meet the highest hygiene standards, guarantee reliability and drastically reduce your energy costs through intelligent heat utilization.

Customized process cooling: where hygiene meets performance

Food companies have special requirements that standard air conditioning systems cannot meet. We know the sensitive points of your production.

  • Hygienic design & HACCP: Our planning takes into account the strict hygiene requirements. This means: easy-to-clean components, corrosion-resistant materials (stainless steel) and the avoidance of dirty corners in cold rooms.
  • Maximum reliability: A refrigeration failure often means the loss of entire batches. We plan redundant systems so that your production can continue to run safely even during maintenance work or malfunctions.
  • Precise temperature control: Whether maturing room, blast freezer or picking warehouse – we ensure exact temperatures and the right humidity to prevent dehydration or loss of quality.

The game changer: generating process heat from the cold

Hardly any other sector benefits as much from intelligent energy technology as the food industry. Why? Because you need to cool (product) and heat (cleaning water, pasteurization) at the same time.

  • Free hot water: Through heat recovery or the use of high-temperature heat pumps, we use the waste heat from your refrigeration system to heat water to between 60°C and 90°C.
  • Ideal for cleaning purposes: Use the waste heat directly for the daily cleaning of your systems and rooms. This saves massive amounts of gas or oil.

Industry-specific solutions

We develop concepts for various sectors of the food industry:

1. meat products & abattoirs High cooling requirements for blast freezers and cold rooms meet enormous hot water requirements for cleaning. Here we often rely on ammonia (NH3) systems with maximum heat recovery.

2. dairies & cheese dairies Ice water production for process cooling and precise air conditioning for ripening rooms. Use of natural refrigerants to strengthen the “green image” of your brand.

3. bakeries & pasta refrigeration for proofing interrupters and dough cooling. CO2 compound systems or propane chillers are often also suitable here.

4. fruit, vegetables & logistics Storage under controlled atmosphere and temperature to extend shelf life.

Frequently asked questions (Food & Beverage)

Is ammonia (NH3) safe in food production? Yes. Ammonia is the standard refrigerant in industrial food production. To prevent any contact between refrigerant and food, we often design indirect systems (chillers with glycol/water). The refrigerant remains safely in the machine room and only harmless cold water flows in the production area.

How do you prevent mold growth in cold rooms? By correctly dimensioning the air coolers and controlling the humidity. We also pay attention to the correct airflow management to avoid condensation pockets on ceilings or walls.
