1. Deep-freeze warehouses (down to -28 °C) The pinnacle of insulation and refrigeration technology. Here, it’s not just about generating cold—it’s also about protecting the building. We integrate smart frost protection systems, which are often powered by waste heat from the refrigeration system, to protect the foundation from frost damage—without any additional energy costs.

2. Fresh-Produce Storage & Cross-Docking (+2 °C to +10 °C) There is a lot of activity here. Doors open and close constantly. We design systems with fast response times and efficient defrosting to compensate for moisture ingress and prevent icing.

3. Effective air curtain systems for refrigerated areas Most energy is lost at loading docks and passageways. We design high-performance air curtain systems that thermodynamically separate cold and warm air zones in a way that is imperceptible to the eye.

  • Energy Efficiency: Drastic reduction in heat input during loading, resulting in fewer defrost cycles
  • Safety & Visibility: Prevents fogging and icing in the door area; allows for unobstructed forklift traffic without interfering PVC strip curtains.

Naturally Efficient: Why NH3 and CO2 Dominate the Warehouse

For logistics real estate, we carry out projects almost exclusively using natural refrigerants. There are solid economic reasons for this:

  • Ammonia (NH3): The standard for large-volume applications. Centralized systems using NH3 are durable (often lasting 20+ years), easy to maintain, and offer the best energy efficiency per cubic meter of cooled space.
  • CO2 (R744): Ideal for logistics centers with different temperature zones (refrigeration and freezing combined) or locations where obtaining regulatory approval for ammonia is difficult.
  • Heat Recovery: Enormous potential. Use the waste heat from the cooling system to heat office spaces, break rooms, or industrial areas (drying).

Frequently Asked Questions About Cold Chain Logistics

How do you keep the antifreeze warm? Ideally, “free of charge.” We use the warm return flow from the oil cooler circuit or glycol extracted from the heat recovery system to keep the floor under the freezer room free of frost. Electric heating mats are only a last-resort solution for us.

Can you also renovate existing cold storage facilities? Yes. Many warehouses still use R22 (very old) or R404A. We plan to carry out the conversion while operations continue (“open-heart surgery”) so that your ability to deliver remains unaffected while we switch the system to NH3 or CO2.
